Hi Martyn,
Could be a bit of each....for clients where we have produced results nothing short of stunning we have signed NDAs and companies who fail (hopefully we are not involved) seem not to want to make it public....
It's frustrating to get the message across.....
When companies follow sensible and reasonable implementation procedures they should pay for their BI investment in 3 months....and if it is slow
6 months.....That is a compelling business investment rarely equaled....
No other software development process provides the ability to get 3 months paybacks on a consistent basis......Sometimes payback is even faster....
My recommendation to clients is not to do anything in BI that is not clearly linked to being able to pay back in the 3-6 month timeframe....that is...total cost of deployment can be recovered in 3-6 months and everything after that is profit...if it is longer than that....look for something else that will deliver that benefit...it will be there....it is just a matter of identifying it...

Subject: AW: [dw-select] Business Value of BI
Hi,
Just a comment on the following from Peter:
I just find it strange that there is no public debate anywhere about
business value of BI.....
I think the answer may be in one of the following:
1. The BI effort was a costly project failure that no one wants to talk
about
2. The BI effort produced big benefits (that no one wants to tell the
comoetition about)
Ratios? I´d be positive and guess at a 60/40 split.
